The clergy are available for anyone to contact in time of distress or if services of weddings or baptism of children are desired.

Rory is a South African Methodist Minister currently serving in the UK. He has two young children, Hannah and Matthew. He loves wild places, mountains, kayaking and woodwork. To find out a lot more about him and to listen to his thought-provoking sermons, visit his website.

Rowan is the University Anglican Chaplain. She lives in the parish and attends various churches in York, but may be found at Heslington Church about once a month. She likes music, rugby, horses, travelling, books and coffee.

A new vicar for Heslington Church has just been appointed - Rev. Johannes Nobel. His collation (installation) is in Heslington Church on Tuesday 14th February at 7.30pm.

We are fortunate to have both stewards and wardens. Because we are an Ecumenical Partnership, we have four people sharing the tasks of supporting the clergy and the entire membership and of looking after our beautiful building. Hopefully, we will get photos of them soon:

Stewards

  • Rick Taylor leads our 11 o'clock Music Group and enjoys sharing all kinds of music with us.
  • Elisa Main is a Methodist Local Preacher and is often out and about in the circuit. She is keen to get people to take part in services and is likely to approach you to do a Bible reading or lead prayers.

Wardens

  • Bob Cummings has been warden for four years now. He enjoys mending things and acting. So, amongst other things, he is an active supporter of the Summer Club for children.
  • Christine Hallam is a retired teacher of Latin and English. She is one of the angels in the church office and takes great delight in organising food for a congregational nosh-up. Heslington Church wouldn't be the same without her.

Pastoral and baptism visitors

  • Our 17 pastoral visitors between them have responsibility for keeping a watchful (and caring) eye on every member of the church and offering pastoral support where appropriate.
  • Our baptism visitors, Alison Dorins, Bob Cummings and Kay Sanderson, meet with families prior to baptism to talk through their commitment and the baptism service. The families feel this is of great importance and the visitors feel privileged to be involved. Over the last year there have been 13 christenings, including one adult baptism.
  • The church encourages a thanksgiving service before baptism and keeps in touch with families afterwards.
