Heslington Church puts on short courses for those who wish to learn more about the Christian faith or wish to discuss their own faith with others in the church community.

When I survey - Lent course 2010
The course lasts five weeks and each session consists of a simple meal followed by teaching and discussion. The death of Christ dominates the Gospels. The Cross is the symbol of the Christian faith. But we do not honour a dead hero, we worship a living Lord. According to the Bible, the death of Jesus is the gateway to life. There are important themes in this course - the place of silence in a noisy world, despair and hope, suffering, the challenge of living as a Christian when Christianity is no longer mainstream.

Tuesday 23rd February 6.30pm Darkness at noon
Tuesday 2nd March 6.30pm Into great silence
Wednesday 10th March 6.30pm The child on the cross
Tuesday 16th March 6.30pm Outside a city wall
Tuesday 23rd March 6.30pm Touching the rock

As well as the meetings in church, there are also groups meeting at 2.30pm at Heslington Court and at 7.30pm at 277 Hull Road, both on Tuesdays.

Food for Thought Tuesdays 6.30pm to 8.45pm January 12th, 19th, 26th, February 2nd, 9th.
This five session course, which starts with a simple meal each week, examines the Hebrew roots of the Christian faith, Hebrew expressions and thought patterns and how these affected the ministry and teaching of Jesus.
It comes from a Diocesan course on the Hebrew Bible, attended by Nancy and John last November. John has adapted this very thought-provoking course for use at Heslington Church. More information can be obtained from Melanie Drewicz 01904 411982 or John Eckersley 01904 410389.

Taste and See This course takes place each year. See below for the outline of the 2009 course, which was on Tuesday evenings 6.30 - 8.30pm. Each session started with a meal, followed by a short talk, then a discussion of aspects of the Christian faith based around important meals in the Christian story. Lots of opportunities to ask questions. All are welcome.
