Installing Japanese and Korean fonts

The last three menu items on the Home Page are links to the Chinese, Japanese and Korean pages on this website. If you wish to view these pages and the characters do not display correctly, you will need to install the correct language fonts. Some computers have these fonts already installed. Note that the Japanese fonts include the Chinese characters, so Chinese does not need to be installed separately.

Automatic installation: A web browser such as Internet Explorer will automatically prompt you to install the appropriate fonts upon entering a Japanese or Korean page. Click on the 'Install' button in the dialogue box (shown on the right) and accept the defaults in subsequent boxes. The download should not take much time. Finally, click 'OK' at the end. The Japanese or Korean characters should display immediately.

Manual installation: It is also possible to install language packs manually. Unfortunately, exact instructions for this cannot be given because the details vary according to which version of which operating system you are using. However, from the 'Start' menu, go into 'Control Panel' and select 'Regional and language options'. This may be combined with 'Date and time' on some computers. You will be able to select the appropriate language from the dialogue box, then click on 'Apply' to download the language pack.
