The church office is inhabited by wonderful people who know about everything that's going on and make sure that everything happens just the way it ought to. Christine, Valerie and Jane make the world go round - at least they do on Tuesday and Thursday mornings when the office is open for business. They make the best coffee, have an inexhaustible supply of delicious biscuits and never fail to provide a listening ear.

The office is the source of all the church leaflets, Heslington Outlook and the weekly newsletter. They look after room bookings (rooms in the building are available for hire by suitable groups), keep a record of which rooms are in use at any time and issue tickets for church social events. They arrange for, and look after, engineers and repairers, welcome visitors to the building and will supply you with a toilet roll if you really need one. They are indispensible.

The annual church report lets them tell their own story:
In addition to ministering to the multitudinous needs of the 2008 celebration committee, we have entertained the Ecclesiastical Insurers, shared an enjoyable afternoon with Outlook deliverers over Christmas sherry and mince pies, hoovered the Meeting Room floor, cleaned lavatories, manned open church, delivered a plethora of missives through letterboxes, deliberated over semi-colons and aspirates, all with one hand as it were, while the other dealt with the copious tasks of running a church office. We are increasingly tempted to move in our beds and start paying rent.

It's a wonderful team, though! Jane performs serenely and knows all the answers to computer challenges. Valerie tackles anything and constantly encourages and praises us all, Gordon is faithful, generous and ever-willing, while Dorothy's punctilious reliability is a joy. Our most recent valuable recruit is Peter (Main) who works magic with our website (including versions in Japanese, Korean and Chinese) and often accompanies our toiling with a Bach toccata and a fugue or two.
Deo gratias
